This is my last blog post for the month of October. I've really enjoyed posting my favorite, songs, chants and fingerplays as well as my favorite holiday books. I hope they are useful. For my last post, I'm listing some of my favorite picture books. This is an ever-expanding list for me as I think some picture books are timeless. I hope you love these as well. I'm sure you too will find books you and your children will treasure...but if you need a helping hand, our librarians are always willing to help guide you!
I know I said I'd post some of my favorite books this week, but after making lists of my favorite songs, chants and fingerplays, I wanted to post holiday songs, chants and fingerplays, instead. This list includes fall, Halloween and songs for the winter. I'll finish up my October blog next week with a list of my favorite reads for young children.
As promised, here is a list of some of the chants, fingerplays and rhymes I like to sing with my storytime kids. I've written out motions for some of them, but feel free to make up your own. Your goal is to have fun and enjoy your child. My next blog entry, I'll give you a list of some of my favorite Children's storybooks.
I love reading holiday books with kids--not only do I feel like I'm creating memories for my storytime kids, but it also brings me a certain amount of nostalgia for my own childhood. I tend to select my storytime books to reflect the spirit of our various winter holidays to create a sense of celebration for children that draws from many cultures, traditions, and nature. I enjoy incorporating songs, fingerplays, and of course books that make the end-of-the year celebrations magical.
Hello all, Kristi, the Programs Manager for Westbank Libraries writing in October. I’m so glad I get to be in charge of the blog this month. Fall is my favorite time of year as it begins our holiday season. Because of that, this month I plan to list some of my favorite holiday books for kids.
